Cities

Exeter: Exeter is the county town of Devon. From its stunning cathedral to its historic quay side to its plethora of shopping streets, all the best bits of Exeter are within walking distance of each other.

Plymouth: Plymouth is at the head of one of the world's largest and most spectacular natural harbours - Plymouth Sound . The city has a rich maritime past and was once an important Royal Navy base.

Coastal Towns

Salcombe: Salcombe has an extensive waterfront and the naturally sheltered harbour formed by the estuary which has given rise to its success as a sailing port.

Kingsbridge: Kingsbridge has been the main market town in the area for centuries. Its proximity to the spectacular south Devon coast and sailing venues has for more than 200 years made it a very popular destination.

Dartmouth: Dartmouth It is a major tourist destination set on the banks of the estuary of the River Dart. Historically, it was of great strategic importance as a deep-water port for sailing vessels.

Torquay: Torquay lies on the north of Torbay, and adjoins the neighbouring town of Paignton. Renowned for its healthy climate, it earned the nickname of the English Riviera .

Inland Towns

Totnes: Totnes is a traditional South Devon market town. Indications of its former wealth is given by the number of merchants' houses built in the 16th and 17th centuries, one of which is open to the public as the town museum

Buckfastleigh: A small market town and centre of tourism - home to Buckfast Abbey , the South Devon Railway , and the Buckfastleigh Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary .

Tavistock: Straddling the fast flowing river Tavy below the Western edge of Dartmoor, Tavistock stands in the heart of an area of tremendous natural beauty.

Princetown: Princetown is best known as the site of the notorious Dartmoor Prison . It is the highest town on the moor, and one of the highest in the United Kingdom

Moretonhampstead: Moretonhampstead is a fairly small market town on the edge of Dartmoor and is notable for having the longest one-word name of any place in England?

Okehampton Okehampton grew on the Medieval wool trade. Notable buildings include the 15th century Chapel of St James, and Okehampton Castle . It is also home to the Museum of Dartmoor Life.
