Oldaport Farm Cottages
Modbury, Ivybridge, Devon PL21 0TG
 |
Oldaport lies in a peaceful setting in the heart of the beautiful South Hams valley on historic 80 acre working sheep farm and miniature Shetland Pony Stud. |
Situated beside the tranquil Erme estuary in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it provides an ideal location for unwinding, absorbing the countryside and being among the farm animals. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area and many fascinating walks – the south coastal footpath and beaches are nearby.
There are many places and attractions to visit nearby – why not visit the picturesque villages and coastal towns like Noss Moss, Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth. Dartmoor National Park in complete contrast to the coastal area is just 8 miles away. The historic port of Plymouth is less than half hour drive and offers a variety of modern facilities as well as the historic Barbican, Hoe and Naval connection. |
Oldaport is of great archaeological interest, the farmhouse is believed to be of early 17th century origin and represents a good example of a cross-passage farmhouse. It stands where much earlier houses have stood, including one mentioned in the Doomesday Book owned by the de la Porte family. |
|
The site is an English Heritage site being an historic fortification of Saxon or even Roman origin.
